With the gap between independent films and studio films constantly growing, it has become quite a challenge for independent producers to finance their films. As a result, more and more producers are looking outside of their home territories for additional sources of finance. Europe, in particular, is very attractive for international producers: not only does it have diverse landscapes and excellent crews, but the different European countries offer fantastic funding and tax incentive schemes that can be accessed by foreign producers to finance their films.
More and more filmmakers, producers, and even screenwriters are expanding their worldview by tailoring their projects and stories to make them more attractive for a potential European production and co-production. The fact of the matter is there is gold to be mined in this approach. Over the last few years, co-productions with European countries have not only become more common and successful, but the financial incentives have grown tremendously. Finding the right partners and understanding the landscape is not as difficult as one might thing. In fact, the information is readily available for those willing to put in a little legwork.
Anouk will take you into the world of European co-productions with great detail and flair. She will start by explaining European vs. international co-productions, bilateral vs. multilateral co-productions, co-production treaties and cultural tests. She will discuss the pros and cons of co-productions and how to identify whether your project fits with the upside potential for a European co-production. She will dive into the important aspects of your script and overall budgetary needs including story, locations, crew, overall costs and more. Then she will get into the most important questions: How do you get the money, how much money can you get, and what will make your application for funding and incentives get approved above all others. Anouk will also teach you how to find, approach and close the right partners to assure your European co-production is a winning one!
"A complete eye opener. I had no idea these options were available to me. It's like moving from a room where the walls are closing in to an open field. The possibilities are endless."
- Steven C.
"Invaluable information."
- Valerie L.
"I have 3 projects in various stages of development that have all but stalled. All 3 could certainly be rewritten or tweaked to fit a European co-production model. We'll be starting on doing just that tomorrow."
- Ricardo C.
"My job as a producer just got easier."

You’ve probably heard that the secret to good writing is rewriting. Truer words have never been spoken, particularly when it comes to your crafting your second draft. The leap from your first draft to second draft is crucial in producing a compelling and marketable script. It is critical you understand how to approach your second draft as professional writers do to actually elevate your work and move the needle on your film and/or television script getting produced. In this exclusive Stage 32 webinar, you will learn how to identify problems with your script, how to fix those problems, and how to implement third-party notes all in an effort to elevate the second draft of your script. Over the course of 90 minutes, award-winning writer/director/producer Brian Herskowitz will take you through the fundamentals of taking a good script and making it great. Brian has written and produced for both TV and film and has worked on sitcoms, hour series, and feature films. He is a member of the Writer’s Guild of America and the Producer’s Guild of America and has written for over 2 dozen films and televison shows for most major studios. In this detailed webinar, Brian will teach you how to identify what to cut (and when you should cut it), what to add, and whether the script's issues are structural, character, or logic driven. This webinar gives an overview of the rewrite process and offers tools to correct errors and make your second draft SOAR. You will walk away from this webinar with the necessary tools you need to crush the second draft of any script you write so that you see the necessary improvement in your work. Praise for Brian's Teaching & Knowledge: “As a collaborator with Brian and a guest in his class, I am hugely impressed with his screenwriting knowledge. I heartily recommend him and his course.” - Jason Alexander (Seinfeld, Pretty Woman, Listen Up) "I have a master's degree and a doctorate, Brian is by far the most caring and best teacher I have ever had." - Alan J. "The course was everything I needed and then some. An excellent course." - Katie R. "Mr. Herskowitz is very knowledgeable, patient, and superb at discerning problems and helping us solve them." - Sandra O. "A solid course in which I felt I had learned a LOT by the time it was over." - Peter L.
The Script Supervisor. It's a role not taught in film school, yet it might be the most important job on set. From saving your production days and money, to director's notes, to continuity, and more. Its a a great way for you to break into the industry as there is more opportunity for script supervisors right now all over the world than there are people who know how to do the job. See how you can tackle this vital role! Filmmaking is a collaborative experience. So imagine the incredible frustration of getting to the project's release... and seeing a coffee cup that's not supposed to be in a scene sitting on the screen! Script supervisors keep coffee cups out of shots, as well as ensuring there are no other continuity errors. But this is just the tip of the iceberg of what a script supervisor does. From pre-production through post, the script supervisor can bring clarity and help avoid costly mistakes that will sink your small budget film or incur expensive reshoots to bigger budget ones. But, if this is the job you want, or want to hire, how can you understand its importance without training? Stage 32's exclusive webinar will show you how. Rachel Atkinson has worked on countless film, television, and commercial productions, and she's ready to give you everything you need to learn to be a script supervisor. Her recent credits include Hulu's DOPESICK, Apple TV+'s SWAGGER, Showtime's HOMELAND, AMC's THE WALKING DEAD: WORLD BEYOND and TURN: WASHINGTON'S SPIES. She's also worked on commercials with brands including Nike, Guitar Hero, and JC Penny. Every format has a nuanced version of script supervising duties, and Rachel will show you how to be a script supervisor in each. With so many years under her belt, there's no one better to teach you how to operate confidently in this role. In addition to her fantastic expertise, Rachel brings sample scripts, forms, and breakdowns for your hands-on practice! She'll also be available live for your questions. Can't make the live? This webinar will be accessible in your account for an entire year so that you can rewatch it to get the most out of this valuable knowledge! PRAISE FOR RACHEL'S TEACHINGS: Rachel covered exactly what I was hoping to learn. She clearly broke down the most important aspects; there is so much to learn about script supervision but she gave a very digestible start. -Kristen A. Very helpful, informative, and interesting. The instructor, Rachel did a wonderful job of really going into detail about her position. I attended a Script Supervising class via zoom a few weeks ago with a different organization and instructor, and it was nowhere near as great as this one was! -Shelley R. Rachel was great :) Thank you for making this possible. -Mickayla P. Thorough. Insightful. Generous. -Moitri G. Rachel did a wonderful job explaining the key concept and answering our questions. -Elizabeth V.
Any producer can tell you just how much goes into creating a budget for a film. Layer after layer, projection after projection, contingency after contingency, it’s always an incredibly difficult, incredibly fragile, and incredibly intricate document that take an immense amount of work and care to put together. And with so many elements involved, it’s just too big and specialized for a program like Excel to handle. There is a reason why nearly every studio, producer, accountant and unit production manager utilizes Movie Magic Budgeting to write budgets. If you are in the position where you have been asked to create a budget, Movie Magic is absolutely essential. It is the easiest and cleanest budgeting program and can handle anything from shorts to multi-cam and single camera series to full features. It is both simple and deeply complex as you start getting into the minutiae of everything it can do. Yet a solid understanding of how to operate Movie Magic is a powerful tool in the arsenal of those looking to move up into management on either the show or studio level and might be a requirement for those looking to find success in their producing career. Rami Rank is a leading and sought-after producer with credits on shows including Amazon's GOLIATH, Showtime’s DEXTER, SWINGTOWN on CBS, HELP ME and HELP YOU on ABC, as well as features such as the remake of APRIL FOOL'S DAY. Beginning his career working on indie features as a Production Coordinator, Production Manager and Line Producer, Rami later joined Universal Studios where in addition to helping manage the Backlot and Stage Operations he also ran UVS-1, Universal’s Virtual Production business. Since then, he returned to production and continues to put together high profile films and series. Through his storied career, Rami has become intimately familiar with the inner workings of Movie Magic Budgeting and set to share what he knows exclusively with the Stage 32 community. Rami will give a full walkthrough of how to successfully use the Movie Magic Budgeting (MMB) software to put together a budget for your own film or series. He will begin by giving an overview of what the budget will look like on MMB, including the top sheet, the accounts, details, helpful shortcut keys, and understanding what amt, units, x, cur, and rate mean. Next he will talk you through how to set up a budget from scratch, including how to choose the right template, input budget info, and set up your header and footer. Rami will teach you how to set up and use different units and will then delve into globals, explaining what they are and how to create them. He’ll to through global groups, applying globals and changing globals. Then he will discuss fringes, explaining what they are in the context of MMB, and go over percentage fringes, flat rate fringes, applying and removing fringes, and setting the fringe account. He will also explain how groups work on MMB, why they are important, how to create them yourself, and how to turn them on and off. Next Rami will explain how to use the currency function and how to set up and build contractual fees. Finally Rami will break down additional basic functions of MMB including pagination, recalculation, and printing and PDF conversion. Movie Magic Budgeting can be an intimidating software, but Rami will give you an accessible and actionable walkthrough so you can have the tools and confidence to build your own budget with it. Rami will be operating from Movie Magic's Version 7.7, the Legacy version of its budgeting software, which is also the version that most professional producers currently use. Praise for Rami's Stage 32 Webinar: "It was great, good presenter, very experienced, good communication" -Paul B. "Terrific host, valuable content." -Mark M. "Rami was great. He was entertaining, and showed he knew what he was teaching. Webinar flowed well and was engaging for the whole timeframe" -Nicholas B. "Very helpful, good overview of the software" -Angie L.

Animation as a medium is much different than its live action counterpart and requires a unique series of skills. One of the most important among them is pitching. First, you are in charge of not only nailing a perfect pitch complete with character and story arcs, but you are also in charge of helping your audience visualize something that doesn't exist yet. Being able to do both and succeed can be challenging. You have to know how to map out your story, how to lay out your storyboards and how to verbally hone in on a perfect pitch. Missing a key element can mean you will get a pass. To make sure you put your best foot forward, Stage 32 is thrilled to bring you an exclusive Masters of Craft webinar with Paul Watling, Head of Story for Oscar-Winning SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE and Conrad Vernon, Director of Oscar-Nominated SHREK 2. He served as a story artist on several other Sony Pictures Animation films, including SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE and HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2, along with a multitude of feature development projects. Paul relocated to Los Angeles from Toronto, Ontario where he worked as a storyboard artist, designer and director on a variety of television productions, such as GROJBAND, SIDEKICK, TOTAL DRAMA ISLAND, YIN YANG YO, ATOMIC BETTY and ED, EDD N EDDY. Conrad Vernon is an American director, writer, storyboard artist and voice over artist best known for his work on the DreamWorks Oscar-Nominated animated film series SHREK as well as other films such as MONSTERS VS. Conrad is now tapped to direct an animated movie version of THE JETSONS for Warner Bros. In this exclusive Stage 32 Masters of Craft Webinar Paul and Conrad will go over what a story pitch is for animation and how it can affect your story board. They will teach you how to prepare for a story pitch and how to plan a pitch story board. They will share from their decades of experience things that work well and things that do NOT work well in a pitch. And, exclusively to Stage 32, you will see video of the actual in-room pitch Conrad did for SHREK 2 - complete with the live pitch, the story boards and the final product! Paul will even do a live pitch to the class. You will get to see how the top pros pitch!
