The Write Now Challenge Webcast: Write a Scene of Conflict

In this challenge, members were asked to write a scene of conflict. Remember that "conflict" does not necessarily mean "a scene where two people fight"! It means a scene in which two characters with opposing points of view attempt to get what they want in the scene. So, what do they each want? What methods do they use in an attempt to get it? Seduction? Deceit? Force? Honesty? Are they successful in their attempts? The possibilities are endless!

Write Now Webcast - Writing Flashbacks

Flashbacks Make sure your flashback scenes drive the plot forward, are not more dramatic than the present, reveal information about your character or situation, have a specific point of view.

The Write Now Challenge: What's in the Box?

We're back in the Writers' Room for the Write Now Challenge Webcast: "What's in the Box?" This challenge came from the mind of Writers' Room Member Louisa Kendrik Burton: "We are all given the same premise or a Logline. Everyone writes 3 pages. [Let's] see how different they all are even though they are based on the same premise!" This is a fantastic idea and brilliant in it's simplicity and originality. So, without further ado here is the logline as the prompt: "A down-on-their luck janitor receives a mysterious package on their front steps, with a note promising inside is the solution to all their problems, but it will come at a cost." During the webcast we heard from a number of members who took the logline is several different directions - all with original and compelling ideas.

The Write Now Challenge: Write a Scene of Dramedy

In this challenge, you were asked to use The Breakdown Webcast: What the *&%$ is a Dramedy? as a guide to write a short scene (1-5 pages) that uses all of the principles discussed. Make sure to watch the Breakdown Webcast for those tips! You can find that by clicking here. We received some excellent submissions that all attempted to ride that fine line of truly being a "Dramedy."

The Write Now Challenge with Literary Manager at Circle of Confusion, Antonio D'Intino

We're back in the Writers' Room for the Write Now Challenge Webcast with Antonio D'Intino, a Literary Manager at the production and management company Circle of Confusion, whose clients include writer/directors Keith Thomas (FIRESTARTER), Anthony Scott Burns (COME TRUE), and Iris Shim (UMMA). His clients' films have played at Cannes, Sundance, and SXSW, among others.

The Write Now Webcast: Plot Twists!

Welcome to the final Writers' Room webcast of 2019! The last broadcast of the year was the Write Now Challenge: Plot Twists! This month you were challenged to write a scene in 3-5 pages that tells a story with a major plot twist. This is no easy feat and perhaps the most difficult challenge we have faced to date! There is also a special question and answer session during the broadcast, where members asked me anything about the industry, the craft, the business, your screenwriting career or any other burning questions you may have!
