Playwright The year is 1944 and ‘Agatha the Ugly’ is a popular funny radio show in which Agatha, a 300 pound female does her best to eat anything in sight, much to the horror of her costar! The show provides much needed amusement to people who otherwise only hear about the horrors of the war. In fact, many of the young men who went to fight have not returned, and never will. Ruth used to be a lounge singer, but met her late husband, Henry, in Sal’s, the local Deli. The beautiful Agatha, the secret star of the show, used to do the show with her fiance, Benji before he went to war in this romantic drama set during world war 2.
Both women harbour guilt over the deaths of their loved ones and blame themselves, keeping themselves apart from society, almost in an effort to punish themselves. At a chance meeting in the Sal’s Deli, the two get talking and over time, find that the bond of friendship can help to overcome the loss of a loved one.
