So next week a music video is coming out, and im the lead role in it. I'm wondering how im gonna be judged on my first performance was i good? Or did i suck?
As long as you feel confident and proud of the performance, that's all that matters. But, as an actor you always have to improve, so make sure to look at your performance with constructive criticism to see how you can do better. Always learn and grow. Congrats!
There are a lot of myths out there, and this is a strong one. Do you seriously think that one role in a music video is going to make or break an acting career? Unless you're singing in it, and trying to start a singing career, I wouldn't worry about it.
You should judge yourself on if you showed up sober and on time, hit your marks and gave your talent and effort freely to your director and co-actors, and treated all the crew including the PAs with respect. You should judge the project on the catering, the director, and if the check didn't bounce. Dead serious on all of this. It's all that matters. Stick with it and these things of which I speak are all you or anyone else will remember after hundreds of jobs.
Control what you can control. Take criticism, digest, parse, learn and move forward. And most of all, be fair to yourself. After all, you did win the role.
With practice you will just get thicker and thicker skin. You'll still be able to enjoy the pleasure of acting but you won't be badly affected by the trauma of bad reviews. I'm sure you did beautifully but if you didn't, you still did it and that actually counts for so much. Congratulations.
