Little Holes & More or Less

Combined Release Note for Little Holes & More or Less

Two new songs arrived today — not planned, not chased, just appeared, the way my writing usually does. I’ve learned not to question it, not to slow it down, and definitely not to try controlling it. When the words come, they come fully formed. Today was one of those days.

Song 1: Little Holes

This one started on a bus ride. At one point we passed an underpass with a guardrail full of tiny holes. Through those holes I could see flashes of color from cars below — red, blue, gold — and instantly the phrase “little holes” connected with the bigger theme of how people see each other (or don’t). The entire song unfolded right there: people who look through narrow openings, assign roles, and refuse to let humanity seep in.

Earlier that same day, I scrubbed a hateful Nazi symbol off a public restroom door — something anyone could have done, but no one else did. That contrast between apathy and action helped fuel the emotion behind the song.

Song 2: More or Less

A few hours later, out of nowhere, a different rhythm hit me — a cascade of words ending in -ess. Depress, suppress, repress, oppress…

The pattern built itself fast, like a drumline forming in my head. Within minutes I knew exactly who the song was about: the people who treat lives like chess pieces, hide behind procedure, and think they’re “winning” while crushing everyone around them.

The song becomes a verbal takedown, peeling their illusion of superiority layer by layer until nothing’s left. It surprised me how quickly it came, but that seems to be my new normal.

Both songs were written today, hours apart, from completely different sparks — one visual, one linguistic. Neither was planned. That’s just how my brain works now: a kind of creative autopilot that switches genres, tones, and themes without warning.

If either song connects with even one person, it’s worth sharing them.

Thanks to everyone who continues to listen, support, and understand this strange, ever-flowing creative journey I’m on.
