Cinematography : Richard H. Kline (November 15, 1926 - August 7, 2018) by Bill Costantini

Richard H. Kline (November 15, 1926 - August 7, 2018)

A much belated condolence to the family of Richard H. Kline and to the cinematographers of Stage32. I totally forgot to post this a few months ago. Richard H. Kline, legendary cinematographer, passed away recently. He started his film career in WW II, shooting film during the war. He later worked his way up from assistant cameraman to cinematographer, and it took him almost 20 years to become a member of the ASC. Talk about persistence and love for one's craft.

He shot so many classic films, that it's almost shocking. Camelot, The Boston Stranger, The Andromeda Strain, The Mechanic, Who'll Stop the Rain, Soylent Green, The Fury, Body Heat, Breathless, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Howard the Duck, Meet Wally Sparks - he even shot the pilot episode for The Monkees tv show, and worked until he was 70. He received the ASC Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

What a great man, a great lover of cinema, and a great shooter. RIP, Richard H. Kline. You will live on forever in all cinematographers who follow you and get to look through that lenses and do what they love to do: shoot.
