Unsusual methods in recording tracks

I just want to open a discussion about the use of unusual methods in recording different sounds when recording tracks for scores, sound design, or whatever. Examples of what I done: using speakers as microphones, drawing a violin bow across pots and pans, etc. What have you come up with to achieve unconventional sounds in a conventional environment?

Samuel Estes

I've done quite a bit in this arena... Currently - hooking up various contact microphones to unusual objects, re-amping in close spaces or re-amping with mics in unusual vessels. Most of it is done in post now for us, but getting a cool sound in an acoustic space is really fun. Keep experimenting, you should post some of the stuff you are coming up with!

Timothy Andrew Edwards

I've recently recorded percussion instruments and then pitched them down to the point of making interesting low frequency (and lengthened) sounds.
