You could use Facebook, but if you want to be viewed as a more legit project, I'd build a site specifically for the project. You're going to need one in the long run anyway. Check out WIX. You can build a really professional looking page with little or no experience and the cost is comparatively low. Good luck!
But how do people find your website?
Once your site is live, you use social media to promote the hell out of it. Tag Tweets with things like #IndieFilm and #SupportIndieFilm and point people to your site for more info about your project.
