Exploring the options, taking an Ai Film course...

So this talk about #ai in #film and how it impacts the industry in every aspect is frightening and shocking to a lot of people. Also knowing people personally who have had their art ripped off by #artificialintelligence without permission is also quite disheartening. This is the tip of the iceberg and honestly, I don't see this stopping. This is what sound was to film when it was introduced, when filmstock went to Color, when CGI took over practical effects, etc. So instead of standing against a tide that honestly no one can push back, I've started to educate myself about the various tools that are available now and are actually useful to many of us now. I've been in the Curious Refuge Ai Filmmaking Course for the last two weeks and see multiple possibilities with it as a storyteller. I won't be making images with Midjourney to go ahead and post somewhere to sell them as my own. Instead I use it as 'what if' to create the exact thing I am hoping to produce one day. We all should understand its legal implications on what this is doing to the original artists, but also remember its a 'learning program' and whenever you learn, you take something you're familiar with and base your style from that.

So here are some images from my first week assignment of Curious Refuge's Ai Filmmaking course. Story assist using #chatgpt (and I do mean "assist", chat GPT has yet been able to make a great story on its own without guidance yet), images by #MidJourney and image enhancement with #generativefill by #adobephotoshop #adobefirefly

"Amelia Sinclair and the Eternal Cipher"

"Journey into a realm where steam and gears weave a mesmerizing tapestry of wonder.

Amelia Sinclair, a reclusive librarian who left the world of adventure and archaeology after the tragic loss of her parents, who were on the brink of discovering an ancient relic .

When Professor Wrenfield, an old family acquaintance, reveals that a new expedition has been organized to find the Eternal Cipher, the very same relic that killed her parents.

The search for the Cipher is being led by brave privateer and resourceful Captain Nathaniel Blackwood, who doesn’t ask many questions when he’s paid well enough.

Blackwood’s expedition is funded by the enigmatic Lord Jonathan Whitmore, who is seeking the Cipher for his own secret nefarious reasons.

Reluctantly drawn back into a world of danger and intrigue, Amelia must confront her painful past, protect her parents' legacy, find the Eternal Cipher, and race against time to prevent the relic from falling into the wrong hands, as the consequences of unlocking its power could bring about unimaginable chaos and destruction."

People really need to educate themselves. AI generated content is denied copyright registration as a matter of policy - in other words, it is by definition in public domain. That's the US Copyright Office ruling and it is, in my opinion, both correct and likely to be enacted into law in Congress when they get around to it. It is also the position AGREED UPON between the DGA and the AMPTP. We lawyers are chomping at the bit at the coming flood of litigation as people relying on AI for their work breach copyright... inadvertent breach is still breach and gets you in a host of trouble.
