Hi Stage 32 fam. I'm Charmane, a Jamaican-Swiss writer stepping into directing for the very first time.
This October, I'll be on set for my debut short film - nervous, excited, and ready to learn! Would love to hear from fellow filmmakers; what's the one piece of advice you wish you had before directing your first project?
Looking forward to the journey ahead and to learning with you all.

Maurice, thank you so much for sharing these blogs. Perfect timing since i'm gearing up to shoot my first short film in October. I'll definitely be diving into these especially the one about fumbling the first short, so I can learn from the mistakes before I make them myself.

Find the right DoP. Someone who is experienced, understands your vision and is willing to help you as a first time director. Massive element. Good luck!

You're welcome, Charmane Wedderburn. Can't wait to see your film! And one tip is take behind-the-scenes photos and videos you could use for promo material.

“Thank you, Elena — you’re absolutely right. The DoP will be key for me, not just technically but in protecting the vision. I’ll make sure to find someone who understands the poetry of this story. Grateful for the reminder.”

you never have enough time on set so REALLY think about your coverage. How much do you need, what's key to the story...storyboard and let actors surprise you.
