Unions in DGA solidarity pledge as contract talks near end

“As eyes around the world again turn towards the negotiation table, we send a clear message to the AMPTP: Our solidarity is not to be underestimated. The Hollywood guilds and unions stand united, and we stand strong.”

The article suggests that the strike may continue until September:

“…by which time studios, streamers and networks will have been able to activate force majeure clauses to terminate their least productive overall deals with writers.”

And here’s the rub:

“The calculation is that the cost-saving measure by the Hollywood companies, which have been undergoing belt-tightening and laying off thousands of staff – while continuing to compensate their senior executives handsomely – may make them more amenable to meeting the WGA’s compensation demands.”

Yes, whilst everyone else is suffering, the senior execs have suffered no belt-tightening of their own, but then what good is an Exec if you have no produce to take to the market?

"The Hollywood guilds and unions stand united." Great words to hear, Geoff Hall! I hope the AMPTP reaches a fair deal with the WGA, DGA, and SAG-AFTRA, but if not, all three will be on strike, and that's gonna be something to see because how can you make anything with no writers, directors, and actors?
