Paramount Selling Distribution Rights to Amazon

Saw news that Without Remorse with Michael B. Jordan is in negotiations to screen on Amazon. I wonder how having a different "wide release" option other than theatrical could affect cinemas as they attempt to reopen?

In my opinion, while cinemas as an industry may survive, as a sine-qua-non of serious or important film, it's essentially gone. It's another part of our changing industry which we have to come to grips with. It's serious challenges for some, great opportunities for others. But it does have a lot of wrinkles which have to be addressed!

Yes, SDM, the film industry has a great many challenges -- which translate into opportunities for innovation. My current project, just entering development, is an animated sci-fi/fantasy feature entitled "False Gods." We plan to experiment with all-remote workflow for development and production, then use sequential distribution skipping the theatrical-release step.

That's really interesting, Charles G. Masi! I'd love for you to check-in and post on your progress! Maybe in the Animation Lounge? https://www.stage32.com/lounge/animation
