Hi.. I was recently asked what I would charge as a screening charge for my film to be shown at a film festival. Does anyone know what the going rates are? The film is a one hour documentary. Thanks!

Dear Karen Some festivals pay you the fee of screening your film. It depend to the festival that how much is it? It is between 100 to 600 USD.
@steven I have some films in some festivals that they charge me with this fee for screening. Also, it can be changed for some of them
You mustn't pay the fee also they pay you forbyour screening...
I guess we just have to pay!
I run a film festival and have different fees for shorts and for features. Right now, use code 00STAGE32 for a discount. Look for us in Film Freeway, Dodowa International Film Festival. Thanks. :)
Is it common for filmmakers to pay an additional fee after their film has been selected? Just to be seen in the festival?
Karen in many cases the size of the fest determines that. A mini major could be between 2-5K if your film debuted at one of the majors (Cannes, SxSW, Sundance, TIFF, tribecca) but anything between 500 and 1,000 is reasonable. I would advise you as a doc filmmaker, instead of taking a screening fee, I would tell them that if they pay our freight (Flight, hotel and per diem, including badge) for the fest, it would benefit you more to do a q&A panel after your screenings and the long-term networking benefits will most likely the short term screening fee.
