We have all had that moment when something clicks inside our head and we suddenly realize that what we want to do with our lives is create. Maybe it was the first time you watched a movie, or maybe it was the first time you acted in the school play; or you're like me, and it came from watching an old show on YouTube that was cancelled when you were three-years-old.
A couple of years back, I stumbled upon the series "Just the Ten of Us". I won't go into much detail about it; let's just say that, in my humble opinion, it was not only one of the funniest shows of the 1980s, but one of the most creative and subversive. Then, after just 47 episodes, it was over; leaving a lot of loose ends and a lot of unlearned lessons. So, I wrote my own episodes; not for personal gain, but just to get some closure. So far, I have 50 half-hours of closure to my name, and hopefully more when I have the time to write them. They're at http://www.thelostepisodes.com/ if you want to see them. Some of the people who worked on the show seem to like them, so I've got that going for me.
Anyway, now that the origin story is out of the way, let me tell you that writing those "lost episodes" gave me, if not some training, then at least some unearned confidence that I could possibly create and produce a series of my very own. Right now, I'm polishing an hour-long comedy called "The Orlando Sound". I entered it in a few contests, and what feedback I've gotten has been good; so maybe I'm not delusional, after all.
