Introduce Yourself : Hello! by Debbi Mack

Debbi Mack

Hello!

Been a while since I've been here, but here goes.

I'm a lawyer-turned freelance writer-turned-fiction author. I'm originally from Queens, NY, but my teen years were spent in various places.

I've been writing screenplays since 2009 (or before, maybe?). I started off writing mysteries, so my first efforts at screenwriting reflected that.

Here are a couple of loglines for the first scripts I've written:

Feature (thriller): A desk jockey FBI agent risks losing his job when he starts a rogue field investigation into his ex-wife's murder, which uncovers ties to a terrorist group infiltrating the government.

Pilot (one-hour drama): A young DC-based information consultant lands what seems to be the perfect gig. However, even though the job challenges her already strained relationships, failure to cooperate with the client could be deadly.

Here's one for my novel, DAMAGED GOODS, which was nominated for a Shamus in 2021: A female Marine veteran with PTSD and an opioid addiction is hired by a wealthy man to find his missing daughter. However, she quickly finds herself in over her head when she finds her client's partner has been murdered.

Now I seem to leaning toward writing comedy or dramedy. Possibly sci-fi. Even horror.

Short (horror): A mystery author who achieves great success must contend with a paralyzing case of writer’s block and harassment from online trolls, who torment her to the breaking point.

Pilot (half-hour dramedy): A grieving widow who enjoyed fleeting success as a self-published author must decide whether to join an all-female group creating a web series that challenges stereotypes about older women. Her perceptions, which seem to be compromised, are further challenged when she wakes up in an alternate reality.

Feature (comedy): An alienated albino teen girl does everything she can to befriend the school’s most popular girl, and by doing so, risks losing her most valuable allies.

Web series (action): A mystery woman uses skill and cunning to infiltrate and eliminate a hierarchy of criminal traffickers, working her way up through the ranks, until she finally confronts the big boss.

I've also considered starting a smartphone filmmakers' club. Maybe.

Or maybe I'll just write about one ... :)

Cheers!
