Hello! I work behind the scenes on compliance for kids/family animation and learning content

Hi everyone — I’m Simon, based in the UK, and I work in editorial compliance for a global media network.

Most of what I do is behind the scenes, helping make sure animation, kids shows, and learning content meet the right editorial and platform standards before they’re released — things like Ofcom, FCC, COPPA, YouTube Kids, etc.

It’s a bit of a niche area, but I’ve spent years reviewing scripts, outlines, and episodes to make sure they land well for families, pass regional rules, and don’t accidentally raise red flags. I’ve work across the UK, North America, EMEA and LATAM markets — always learning something new with each region. I’ve even been know to stretch my Premiere and After Effects skills on a daily basis.

I joined Stage32 to meet more people working in animation, education, or digital content who might want to connect — even just to share ideas or trade stories. If anyone’s ever unsure about age-appropriateness, platform limits, or just wants a second pair of eyes, I’m happy to help where I can.

Excited to be here and looking forward to learning from you all!

Hi Simon Marriott, welcome to Stage 32! I’m Ashley, the Head of Community here. Your background in compliance for kids and family content is such a valuable (and often underrepresented) part of the creative process, thank you for the important work you do!

If you haven’t explored it yet, I highly recommend jumping into the Animation Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/animation). It’s a great space to connect with other storytellers, animators, and producers working across formats and age groups. If you’re open to broader discussions around storytelling and digital media, you might also enjoy the OTT & Transmedia Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/transmedia).

We’re glad you’re here, and I look forward to seeing you in the lounges!

Simon Marriott

Hi Ashley,

Thank you so much for the kind welcome — I really appreciate it. I’ll definitely check out the Animation and Transmedia lounges.

I’ve mostly worked behind the scenes in global compliance for kids’ content, so I’m just starting to find my way in more creative spaces. Looking forward to connecting and learning more from the community.

All the best,

Simon

Simon Marriott, welcome aboard. You will find that some of the members here are very animated. I am definitely so after enough coffee. Seriously though, I am working on getting three family friendly animated series developed. Also, two animated films. I am not asking for help since I am as poor as a church mouse. However, it would be interesting to hear about your work. Best wishes from Germany.

Simon Marriott

Hi Wyman,

Thanks so much for the warm welcome — and I’m definitely animated after coffee too!

Your projects sound amazing — I’d love to hear more about them when the time is right. I’ve been working behind the scenes for quite a few years now, helping with compliance and localisation for kids/family content across different regions and platforms.

It’s often invisible work, but it can really help smooth out production and avoid issues when content gets dubbed, re-edited, or distributed globally. Always happy to share what I’ve seen behind the curtain if it’s ever useful.

Sending best wishes back from the UK!

Simon

Simon Marriott, I would enjoy knowing what you saw behind the curtain. The only thing I saw behind the curtain was some guy pretending to be a wizard.
