Hello to everyone. I am not knew to this site. I joined nearly a year ago. I have been remiss in not using the site to it's fullest potential for several reasons. The first being, I am an author, and because of this not sure if I would fit in here at all. But having said that, I have spent a couple of months turning my latest book called "The Legends of Cooper's Landing" into a movie script, and no, I have not submitted that to anyone yet as it first has the option of going to a movie star returning to this country in October, who has his own company. It was specifically written for this one person. Second because I had no idea you could submit written books. I learnt this via Lane Shefter Bishop whose webinar I attended and found absolutely fascinating. Thank you stage 32. Secondly, I had no idea whether I would be useful to anyone else. I am not an actor, cinema photographer, nor anything resembling a script writer, but now I am, and looking forward to writing more books to be turned into movie scripts and perhaps turning one or two of my others into scripts. I have several e mails a day from stage 32 and avidly read each one. The community never fails to amaze me and I am honored to be a part of this. Katharine

I share your position, my novel, CONTROLLING, is in print and I'm now trying to educate myself to the ins and outs of screenwriting. I purchased Final Draft 9 software and I can see I have my work cut out. What software did you use? Any hints for a first-time novelist and first time screenwriter? I've been told that its best to find an agent first because they often have their own screenwriters and don't want the writers anyway. Robert Seckler

Hi Robert. I did not use any soft ware at all. I have a friend who is in the stunt business and borrowed a script to see how the format should run and honestly it was worth it. This was a script of an actual movie and I was horrified as to how much was cut from the book. From a 300 hundred page book I had to cut to around 150 pages. What I did was to take my own book's manuscript and hacked it down to the barebones. Where as being a writer you see scenes in your own mind and how they are played out. Movie makers do that too and should be allowed to direct as they see fit. I did however present my book first which is also in print. I think if it is good the directors can at least know where you were going with it and why. Presentation is everything and I did truly learn a lot from Lane Shefter Bishop. Awesome lady. Go to one of her webinars. It gives you an amazing insight into what, how, where and when. In all honesty, I have written ten novels to date and half way through three others. I am for the most part self published on Amazon and Barnes and Nobles, and am beginning to get a good following. I started writing because I like to do it. I found an editor who told me I could be good, and edited my work. Yes it is said that you need a literary agent. I tried and gave up. I like to write and that's what I spent my time doing. I am fairly sure that if you become successful it's because your novels were turned to movie script or just by sheer volume of your work. You can find my books on my website Katharine carter.net. I wish you every success, Katharine

Stage 32 is without a doubt, a very unique resource. You'll definitely find many supportive people here, including other authors (such as my husband, Michael F. Gonchar).
