Introduce Yourself : Production Sound Mixer / Boom Operator by Carl Welden

Carl Welden

Production Sound Mixer / Boom Operator

Hi, I’m Carl, I do location sound primarily in the New York tri-state area for film, TV, video and web content. Anything from commercial, narrative, documentary, music and more. I do sound cart jobs as well as ENG bag work. Gear includes Schoeps & Sennheiser boom mics, Sound Devices recorders, Lectrosonics wireless, Denecke timecode slate & sync-boxes, Comtek monitors, K-Tek booms, etc. Looking to network with other production professionals...producers, directors, filmmakers and crew. I’ve recorded sound on projects for Disney, NBC/Peacock, NPR, Discovery Channel, Amazon Prime, General Electric, IBM, Toyota, Air BnB, AARP, Invicta and many more

You can also reach out to me on Clubhouse, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc... I’m easy to find and we may already have friends in common.

So good to meet you, Carl! My name is Kay, I'm the Community Manager here at Stage 32. Man, I'd LOVE for you to drop into the Filmmaking Lounge and see what's what: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/directing So many people forget about ensuring good quality sound on their shoots.

Ooo, what good Clubhouse rooms have you found?

Myriam B

Guys.... I've had the pleasure to talk to Carl and he's amazing! He told us many stories of the trade - wise, useful knowledge. I usually can keep a secret ;) but not this one: you should all connect with him.

Thanks Karen "Kay" Ross! I’ve written in the Stage32 lounge a while back about how there pages in the lounge for other departments (cinematography, composing, animation, etc.) but none for sound...so it feels like this platform is among the “So many people...” you mentioned. Clubhouse had been incredible. I launched “The Production Sound Group” club, whose members all work in sound, but anyone is welcome to follow the club...in fact, we encourage it. Our mission is to make our department heard and understood, since the importance of good sound is such a mystery to most (until they experience bad sound). We are going to schedule a public session with 2021 Oscar winner Philip Bladh (Sound Of Metal) for example, so follow me there and follow our club!

Much obliged Myriam B

Thank you for your kind words!

I appreciate the shout-out and look forward to seeing you in our rooms...
