Scott J. Smith - Actor, Voiceover, Writer, Producer

So, let's see if I can address each of those (in the title) I've been acting (as my parents describe it) since a little kid, as an amateur in high school (but didn't hang out with the drama geeks), and "caught the bug" at, of all places, a technical university, where the drama club was somewhat of an outlier. Since then, I became involved in community theater and a few professional houses, ending up as artistic director for one company while adding film, television and commercials to my repertoire. My most recent endeavor is an independent film called "Thunder," which follows the life of a retired rodeo star, who responds to unsavory characters who happen upon her ranch. Shooting was an incredible experience, and I got to work with quite a few people I've worked or studied with before, and met a whole gang of new friends, as well. From time-to-time, I am asked whether or not I "do narrations" or voiceovers, or somesuch...and the answer is always "Yes"...right? Well, one job paid off big, and the client kept coming back for more. As other opportunities closed, I poured more of myself into voiceover work, adding a few audiobooks and eLearning modules to my resume. Watching movies and working on set (or on stage) always inspires a story for me...as does mowing the lawn. I can't tell you how many times I just stop the yard work to go inside and write. I have several ideas that are nice short films...a couple I'd like to test whether they "have enough" for a feature. Anyway, when I reconnected with an old friend who is producing a web series, his character descriptions were so vivid, it inspired me to present treatments for a couple episodes...and just recently, I came up with the beginnings a six-episode arc that I'll have to pitch strongly, since it would take his series in a completely different direction. My involvement with social media, website design and other communications for his web series gave me plenty of insight into the inner workings of his show that it wasn't long before I started taking on some of the producing aspects of the show. Sometimes, I feel like those shadowy figures in various stories, as so much of my work is away from the cast and crew, but directly affects the production. (Mwuahaha?) So, I'm having fun. I need to start sharing more...not just to bring more people together, but to free myself up a little bit to explore even more opportunities!
