On Writing : Effective query letters for representation by Jeff Cross

Effective query letters for representation

The online pitching thing the site offers allowed me to calibrate my query letters to agents. Since three of my scripts are either based on novels I wrote or I adapted into novels in order to work the representation problem from multiple angles, I was using a slightly modified version of the book agent query on screenwriting agents and managers. Turns out the query method of hook-book-cook I was using for book agents bores people in The Business. Eliminating both the justification spiel for the story and the touting of my own credentials was the kicker, as well as adding the dummy onesheets I'd created for pitchfest leave-behind handout cards with contest laurels, streamlined it and got me more favorable feedback even though they chose to pass.

For David: they do pitches with companies and agencies from time to time here.

The written (or verbal) pitch template pdf made available by Stage 32 Happy Writers can be found on the Happy Writers pitch session website page, within the left side column —if that's what you are looking for? Here's a direct link to the template pdf: https://www.stage32.com/sites/stage32.com/files/cake/screenplays/586c11e.... I hope that helps. :)

Many thanks. That's very useful, if a little different from what I expected. Much appreciated.
