On Writing : Is there a source on how to convert a screenplay into a Stage play? by Steven Harris Anzelowitz

Is there a source on how to convert a screenplay into a Stage play?

I am a Brooklyn native. Manhattan resident. 3rd generation of a New York Show Business family. I have a screenplay called "Hope Saves Manhattan". After trying to get funding for a year without success and since I do live not far from Broadway and off Broadway I would like to explore the more cost effective way of staging this as a play. Any Metro NYC Stage 32 creatives out there who would like to join me in this quest I am ready to collaborate. Thank you

Hey, Steven! For the Creatives out there who may be interested, what kind of feedback have you received on the script?

Steven Harris Anzelowitz

I have gotten good feedback from about a dozen creatives both here and in Europe. They also helped me doctor the script and it came down from the original 140 pages to the now 96 pages. In answer to your question: Is it ready to be shot? I need to do a table read at the Producers Club on West 44th Street first with the full cast(which are selected). I am going to be an "Actors Director". Let them be responsible for there performance. I don't want to micro manage. If I was confident enough in casting them, in the first place. I should not have to clog their minds with nonsense. Most of the positive comments I have gotten have compared my writing to a combination of Woody Allen/Mel Brooks/ Neil Simon and Billy Wider. Than after that I have a DP and a DP plus a gaffer and some crew. We are in agreement to shoot the "Poker Scene" and get it uploaded to various social media platforms. To help us get additional funding. If we go with the film route. as my thread question was posed I want to have a back up conversion ready as a stage play that would or could be more cost effective. I am fortunate that my DP. not only has his own red camera but also has post editing hardware Da Vinci Resolve 12 so he can give me a finished Video with color corrections and Music that I will select. I started writing "HSM' in August of 2014 @ The Hot N' Crusty Bagel shop @ 3 AM. A few weeks later I had (10) small memo pads, 847 pages. Than it went to a binder with 237 pages. Than finally a 140 page Celtx formatted shooting script which I than shaved down to a Spec script of 135 pages and then finally after Stage 32 fellow creatives notes, suggestions and comments I am where I am. The big question now. And this is true for EVERY independent film maker is the $$$. I am reading "Bankroll" by Tom Malloy. "How to finance your independent film" . At 63 years old after spending most of my adult business life in adverting copy writing and sales. I am well aware of the challenges I face. But I have this New York Native "street smarts" and common sense that has not failed me yet. Yes I can handle rejection. I am looking forward to celebrate my one year anniversary on Stage 32 with RB(He's Bensonhurst and I'm Canarsie. Brooklyn Baby) at Tribeca this year. So I realize that was the long answer to your original query. But I believe in being complete, honest and thorough about my work. Thanks.
