The Magic of an Unforgettable Love Story

This week’s theme for me is Masterpieces. In both music and film, I was struck twice.

Even though I didn’t love the finale of 1923, Spencer and Alexandra’s love story will always stand out to me as one of the most magical I’ve seen on screen. Their chemistry, their mesmerizing scenes, the way they pulled you into every moment—it was captivating.

As writers, that’s the kind of connection we dream of creating—where the audience remembers the magic long after the last page, no matter how they feel about the ending.

What’s a love story (in books, TV, or film) that captured you so completely it felt like a masterpiece, even if the ending wasn’t perfect?

Maurice Vaughan

Rocky and Adrian, Kat Spencer.

Lauren Hackney

I wrote about my beautiful husband and I. Oh our story is still being written (happily married and been together 24 years) however there was a time when I almost lost him due to his heart failure. To have this story preserved on the page and it placing in some screenwriting competition is a beautiful ending to such a heartbreaking time.

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

For me it would have to be either Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, or Kagome and Inuyasha.

You're welcome Rebecca James! People sleep on anime/manga all the time lol there's a lot of great stories :)

Arindam Mukherjee

Spencer and Alexandra's love story is truly an example of cinematic magic. Some love stories, even if the ending isn’t perfect, touch us so deeply through their journey that they become masterpieces in our eyes.

Debra Holland

Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour's romance in Somewhere In Time. (Not a happily ever after.) :(

Kat Spencer

Oh man, Debra Holland, I haven't thought about that movie in so long. I used to play the music from it. Not a happily ever after, but such a beautiful film.

David Taylor

Astonishingly enough, that one escaped my radar. Watching it now.

Lauren Hackney

Romeo and Juliet... oh that ended badly but how they fell in love my the pool was unforgettable.
