To finish the book..or not to the finish the book. That is the question

I'm writing this horror pilot that's inspired by the first volume of my novel series. Considering I'm thirty pages in book two, it's gnawing at me to continue on with the series. The beginning and ends of both are different but the middle is the same. Writing is my first love, regardless if it consists of screenplays, novels or poems. The negative reviews i got from the first one doesn't discourage me ( there are some positive reviews too) besides book one does look rather lonely. But then again, I'm writing the pilot so is it really necessary to complete the series? Feel like the stories will overlap mid series

I would do one of two things: 1) If you're going to keep the same track on the story, etc., write the second book. 2) If you're going to try new things, maybe address some of the criticisms and change things up story or character-wise, there's no better place to do that (aside from a Book 1 re-write) than a fresh pilot script.
