I'm hosting and producing a TV show. I need a recommendation for a camera that I can do video taping, that records great sound quality, and a editing software program. I'm new at this, so keep it simple . Thank you
I don't have an answer but I can tell you that it might help if you stated your budget. There are a lot of video cameras.
In LA there's a chain called Samy's Camera that sales and rents equipment to the pros. You can look there to get an idea of cost. There's probably an equivalent in NYC.
for today's tv, 4K resolution camera, separate sound equipment (boom mic & Mixer). Final Cut or Adobe premiere editing software. Probably need a fast computer. Easily at $10,000 for basic gear.
Or rent. Rental facilities want production insurance equal to the equipment's value.
A Canon C100 mark 2 & a Sennheiser microphone (shotgun mic or lav system for direct to camera sound), + Final Cut Pro or Premiere (or DaVinci Resolve which is free) to edit with. (All told about $5K before taxes) .
It's your choice to make - I use a Sony Z90 for basic doc and interview work for tv. A good mic or lav is really a necessary add-on (it has an ok on board mic). You can buy 'em anywhere from $2K to under $3K - however you outfit it.
Like Dan said and others pointed out.. The audio is vital and a boom plus lav for each person with a mixer/ recorder is very important.. Viewers are forgiving on camera angles and steadiness but never audio.. It is best to start small. Record some friends at a house for cheap.. like rent or connect with locals. Good luck!
