This is an interesting article and Gyllenhaal as the lead in this film doesn’t seem to far fetched, well not as much as Will Smith playing Neo, in The Matrix. Who else can you think of who after the film was released and the social media frenzy started, you heard that the lead was to be someone else and it seemed totally bizarre.
Anyway, as we know, casting is in the hands of the studio gods, if we choose to journey in that stairway to heaven that is, but I didn’t know the sales companies could make decisions about the cast. (Yes, rather naive on my part, I know).
This article shines a light on the box-officeabilty - if there is such a word - of one actor against another and what that means for the budget and wider territory sales. (Although I would have loved to learn just what Jake Gyllenhall’s demands were!)

Geoff Hall Jake is one of my favorite film actors. Virtually every one of his performances is a masterclass in nuance. So, "Ex Machina" is genius; if I were to fashion a top 20 list of favorites, it would probably be there. Having said that, Oscar Isaac owned that role to the extent that it's impossible to envision anybody else.
