Has anyone heard of the Cinestory screenplay contest? It looked legit, with the winner receiving an invitation to a writing retreat. But I just found out that if you are invited you have to pay....a lot, to go. Is anyone familiar with this contest or is this a scam?
The Cinestory Fellowship? It says right on the website that the winner gets a cash award, FREE tuition to the retreat, as well as meals and accommodations. The retreat is not just open to the winners, I think anyone can sign up, but the contest winner gets to go for free as part of the prize. And as far as I know, it's legit. I made the quarter finals last year.
Cinestory is a very well respected group and contest! their retreats are great but yes, only free for the winner.

Hey Danny, I'm on the Board of the CineStory Foundation. Just one tiny correction - the winner attends the retreat for free, and there is a new scholarship provided by Paulist Productions, so actually TWO Fellows attend for free. http://www.cinestory.org/news/2016/2/1/2nd-annual-paulist-productions-sc...
CineStory is a nonprofit, so the costs of attending are hard costs including room and board, meeting space rentals, etc.
Thanks for all the info!
Hi Hank, Danny, Theresa, I can't reveal the details yet, but I hear that another generous sponsor will be providing a scholarship to the CineStory retreat! So as I understand it, 3 CineStory Fellows/Finalists will be able to attend the retreat for free! (Fingers crossed it all works out.)
That's great news! Thanks for the heads up. I hope it works out. :)
Thank you! Credit goes to Stage 32 member and CineStory Exec Director Bryan Dick.
