I've got a hunch two screenplays of exactly the same page count might differ a lot in total word count. So just for fun share your word counts and page lengths. I'll start. I just finished the first draft of a new script. It's a bit long and a bit fat but right now it's 103 pages and 20,100 words.

Near Wal: 92, 15,000.
In Final Draft, run a Statistic Report. The generally accepted wisdom is the percentage of Action and Dialogue should be about equal. In the script I which ran the report it was 42% Dialogue and 44% Action with the remaining spread in Transitions, Slugs, etc.
I did the math: 15,000 divided by 92 = 163 words per page while 20,100 divided by 103 = 195 words per page. Your instincts may be right.

I've looked at several spec scripts and the well written, tight scripts tend to be about 195 words per page so your 103 page script is right on target (20,080). Ya ain't gonna get much closer than that.
Opinions vary.
