Our head of community does take these seriously and follows up with the appropriate action. Krenda Alice hit on an important point - the main reason why Stage 32 exists is to have a place to be relational with other creatives. But we need to address the spam accounts in order to keep the platform free to do that.

As one of the most active members in this lounge, my impression is that often others send me a network request because they have noticed that I commented on some posting. But sure, a large minority would like to sell to me.

Leonardo Ramirez hi, I sent an email re: the Kim Roth account. It appears to be an imposter. I'd be very surprised if the real Kim Roth asked to be in my network. I also emailed the script coverage account because I didn't get any information to read thoroughly, after I submitted the script and got the message to read everything thoroughly. There was nothing to read, just white space. They wrote back as if I was asking them to nudge the exec to read my script, which I wasn't. I just wanted to know what I was supposed to read. Maybe I'll hear back tomorrow. I'm assuming things are slow right now because of the holiday weekend.

There’s been an epidemic of editors offering services recently. Far more than ever before. Presumably people discovering AI and dreaming of money for nothing. If you have a book, the publisher appoints an editor. If you have a script the company gives notes or may appoint a script adviser.

Every report is investigated by an actual person, and members using DMs to cold-pitch services are violating our guidelines. We act on it quickly, but only when we know about it.

You're also right that you don't need to go looking in your inbox for any of this. If you want coverage, consultation, or development feedback, we already have it, and every executive who provides those services through Stage 32 is a vetted working professional. We require every one of them to publish their bio and credits publicly, including people who normally keep that private, and they don't work with us otherwise. A stranger in your DMs has none of that behind them and nobody holding them accountable.

Worth knowing too: you control your own inbox here. If someone isn't in your network, they can't privately message you beyond an initial network request. Decline it and they can never contact you privately again.

And here's the part I most want you to hear. This community is genuinely unlike anywhere else online. Last month six of our members screened short films at the Chinese Theater with a full red carpet. Members sign with representation here regularly. Two films that started on this platform had back-to-back nationwide theatrical releases last year. That happens because of the people in these Lounges.

There will always be bad actors on any open platform. What's different here is that our team is in these spaces every day and we act as quickly as we can when members speak up.

So trust your instincts, report what concerns you, and keep going. The effort is worth it, and the people worth knowing are in the Lounges rather than in your DMs.

Yes, I know that Stage32 don't want members to cold pitch others. During one weekend, I contacted about 10 other members in my network. I wrote "I am willing to read your script if you read mine". I quickly realized that I should limit myself to asking one or two persons person per day. I learned that the hard way.
