While I have not had much joy from pitch sessions (lots of interest but no follow-up) I did get a very helpful and constructive review of my screenplay from Stage 32 with plenty of detail and a helpful synopsis so would recommend this service.
I think I can relate to what you're saying here. I did 13 different written pitch sessions over about a 6 month period last year for a TV show concept I've created, which included revising my pitch about a third of the way through to try and improve it. About a third of the responses were very positive (one I even got all "5s" on), the other two-thirds thought my show idea was basically okay/so-so. Most of them misunderstood one or more things about it, despite my trying (or so I thought) to make my show idea as clear as possible in the pitch. All got a "pass", even from the folks who gave it the best marks. None of them said "Your show idea sux, Bud", so at least that was a positive. I think one of the difficulties with pitching my show is that it's not a standard, easy to describe "high concept" show. It's basically in a "nighttime soap" format (i.e. like Dallas, Dynasty, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest), so it's a mix of plot and character-driven elements, and it's primarily inspired by original series Dark Shadows and The Sopranos. So yeah, it's not an easy show to run down (including a pilot synopsis) in two pages or 5-6 min. One day hopefully I'll find a way to pitch it where its at least understood correctly, and gets the person I'm pitching it to interested in checking out the pilot script (which many people who've seen it have raved about).
I totally agree with you about the Stage 32 script coverage services, though; -- they are the best! When I entered my pilot episode script for my show idea in a Stage 32 contest that was held last year, I also ordered a script coverage. Was I ever glad I did! The reviewer got one relatively minor thing wrong about the script, but otherwise was dead on in understanding what I'm aiming for with the show, which was the most important thing (not to mention refreshing, too).
Awesome, I'm so glad your coverage was so helpful! Especially the synopsis - my co-host and I (of The Coverage Report) have mentioned the benefit of having someone explain your own idea back to you. Keep at it, and keep us posted!
