Hello! Has anyone here has ever had a script reading session? I recently put together a read-through of my feature script read by a group of local actors (mostly theatre actors) and had a blast. It's very helpful to figure out which piece of dialog work and which doesn't, among other things. I'm wondering if any of you had done that before and would you be willing to share your experience? THANKS!

It's a great idea Ruth and I highly recommend it to other writers. It's fun and you get to hear what's been in your head for so long manifest into the " real " world. At the very least you get to hear whether your dialogue works or not.

I LOVE IT!

Hi Ruth, that sounds awesome. I find (as the writer) just listening and not taking a role (even narrator) helps you to be fully objective. I write comedy so I listen for laughs...

Thank you for this inspiration, dear Ruth. The idea with theatre people is great. We have an amateur dramatics group here and I think they will do this if I write a play for them or buy pizza for all. Cool.

Yes, for my latest screenplay, I had two table reads. The main difference was instructive. For first table read, I said nothing about the script beforehand. Nothing about the logline, characters and so on. It just completely cold. For the very latest version, I gave a bit of a preview - the genre, a short description of the main characters and so on. Both sessions were good but I enjoyed the most recent one more.
