Screenwriting : Social Media Pitch Post by Maurice Vaughan

Social Media Pitch Post

I used to make picture query letters way back. I planned on mailing/emailing them to producers, but I never got a chance to. I probably got busy with other things. This was before I found out I shouldn’t attach things to an email query letter (don’t do it).

The query letter had a picture, title, logline, and my contact information. Maybe the genre(s) too. The idea was to hook the producer in a short amount of time.

Writers can use the same concept when pitching scripts on social media. Make a post with a picture/poster, the script’s title (unless it’s on the poster), and logline. You can add the genre(s) and hashtags too. I’ve gotten interest in scripts and script requests this way.

And you can add a short pitch (two-word pitch, three-word pitch, etc.) or tagline to your post if you want to. And some emojis.

Example:

SNOWBALLS OF FURY (working title for my fake script)

Sci-Fi Action Comedy

To save their town and earth from annihilation, childhood rivals use special snowballs they stole from a top-secret lab to win an intergalactic snowball fight against the aliens and their advanced technology.

The ultimate snowball fight

Steve Dini

I love the title "Snowballs of Fury!"

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Steve Dini. I actually want to use that title for a script.

Steve Dini

Great title that evokes the tenor of the story right off the top. I think you have something there!

Meriem Bouziani

Thank you very much for this guidance on pitching through Gmail and social media. I tried this once and didn’t receive much interest or any DMs on Instagram, but I’ll do better next time.

Meriem Bouziani

The idea is unique, but make sure the snowballs never melt during the fight.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Meriem Bouziani. Keep trying. It took me a while to get interest and script requests this way. Great idea. Thanks.

Meriem Bouziani

Yeah, it’s not that easy. I’ll try once I finish my first script. Before, I was trying to pitch novels, I didn’t fully understand what I should be doing with those ideas. Maurice Vaughan

I hope you get interest and requests, Meriem Bouziani! You could ask for advice on pitching novels in the Authoring & Playwriting Lounge (www.stage32.com/lounge/playwriting).

Meriem Bouziani

It’s not working anymore, as I’ve developed the story much further, and the earlier version was an AI draft, so it isn’t copyrightable. Maurice Vaughan
