I'd like to table read my script. Never done it before though. Does one require a director to do it or one can just reach out to actors? Any advice would be appreciated. (I am London-based). Many thanks.
I've found that it's definitely helpful to have someone else in the room to allow me, as the writer, to just sit back and listen and take notes. That person can be a director, or just someone who is good at reading big print and happy to keep the read rolling along. The actors know what they're doing. It's also helpful to think about questions that you want to ask the actors after the read - about their first impressions, what felt natural, what didn't etc. Aim to cast actors that have a similar lived experience to your characters, so they can bring that to their feedback too. Have fun!
