Evil Dead Rise affirms the three Necromonicon books may have come from the same place, but they're different.

I love when creators put in the effort to make larger story universes feel consistent, even if the tone shifts, the characters change, and the journey alters. A great example is Evil Dead which has been a movie franchise, tv series, comic book series, and video game series. Some of them lean more comedic, others more serious, and in terms of the newest trailer for Evil Dead Rise, some are legitimately terrifying. The rules and lore of a larger universe are difficult to keep consistent, but the director of Evil Dead Rise, Lee Cronin, is bringing the larger franchise together by clarifying WHY the rules haven't been consistent up to this point. It's a pretty smart and fun way to unify the content.
