Nashville Film Festival

The Third Bomb has advanced to the Top 3 FINALISTS in the Action/ Adventure category of the Nashville Film Festival!! They had 1,500 plus entrants last year! Woohoo!! I sooo want to go, but it's sooo far away from Australia :-( I'd love to eat the bbq, listen to the music, go to Memphis, ride a paddle steamer down the Mississippi! Arrgghh! :-) https://nashvillefilmfestival.org/finalists-features/

I see you had good fortune last year at the NFF, Sam. Congrats! I flew to the US when I learned I was a finalist at the Las Vegas Film Festival. I had a great time, but ultimately the festival did nothing for my career. Would the NFF be different? Who knows. I read an article about two girls whose comedy script won at the Austin FF. They said the same thing, and the AFF is one of THE competitions to enter! I think I would go just because I've always wanted to go to Nash/ Memphis.

There is definitely a top 10 of contests that can boost your career if you place in them. I know people who have done well from them. Google such a list and you will see a common consensus. Festivals have potential to be a little different because it's live and in person. AFF is the top of the heap in that regard, but just as those ladies said, most people at the fest are just there to see films, party and make some contacts with each other. Power brokers who attend these fests don't want random people accosting them at parties trying to pitch their stuff. Fair enough, right? So, really, you go for the fun and the experience and if you get lucky enough to end up becoming BFFs with Richard Linklater after 10 tequila shots at the bar, jackpot! .. but don't go hoping that will happen. Use it as a chance to practice your pitch/ logline, because people will ask you "oh, what's your story about?" Even if they can't help you with your career, that practice will help you when you come back to Stage 32 and pitch through Happy Writers :-))
