Hi All!
I am writing a tv series based on true events. It is my first time, but I don’t want to come off as a newbie. Any suggestions as to how long a pilot should be? I there anything specific I need when starting a tv series? Should I submit a spec script first? I’m curious as to how to go about it all.

You should probably start out with a Show Bible, which is pretty standard if you're trying to pitch a television show. Here is a link to Lee Jessup's older article about the importance of a Show Bible, and a newer link to how The Duffer Brothers created their Show Bible. Stage32 has some pretty insightful webinars from successful television show execs, and you might want to check out the webinar link here, too, or contact one of the Stage32 script services people about it.

Best fortunes to you in your creative endeavors, Alexa!
Alexa - you're new to the flock and I'm confident you have your dreams; I certainly don't want to mislead you. First off, earning a living as a screenwriter is hard - very hard. You asked about a tv series pilot. Remember that your pilot is the bait you use to generate interest - it's your 'hook'. It does not have to be a full & complete first episode. As a new writer (I assume your interest is in the half hour slot) you must have a clear idea of the series long term theme line and express it very tightly in your pilot script This is very hard). As to script length, I've seen successful pilots as short as 12 pages but most seem to be best in the 15 - 20 page range. It's really helpful if you produce it yourself. It's far easier to market a visual product than it is to market a written only script. Anyway, all the best wishes.
Hi Doug Nelson thank you, I have written 22 pages on the pilot. It’s a really interesting story I would say. I am getting someone to revise and edit it before submission. I have read it to a few people and they tell me they get chills and want to know what is going to come next. So far I’m just testing the waters and I know it will be hard to make a living , so I definitely wont quit my day job! I appreciate the advice !
Bill Costantini thank you so much, I will check it out. I have been looking on here for services, just don’t want to spend the money until I am good and ready for some of the script services. I am going to check out the links you have provided.
