Hey, everybody. Week 3 of this lockdown seems to be making everyone a little stir crazy. What are some creative outlets you've been using to stay sane during all this? I just keep writing short films.
What ever happened to movies that take place in one room/location. I wrote a soft sci-fi script based on that genre and am a lose as to how to advance it.
I’m an essential worker so I haven’t gotten to stay home sadly. Doing daily exercise does help burn off energy. I highly recommend that. Also meditation.
I am an introvert as well and wrote off my very emotionless and rational personality as just what it meant to be an introvert but I learned that a lot of that emotional disconnect was from previous traumatic experiences. I’ve since healed and am much more outgoing and comfortable and willing to engage with people.
I discovered TikTok was a thing, I figured I didn't have enough self-loathing as a writer/director so I started making a funny video each day to bring a little bit of light into the world, something to make people smile. Other than that... I'M TOTALLY FINE I SWEAR
I like shooting zombies. Head shots saves ammunition. So I'm capping and papping the walking dead. The thing about zombies is they kind of stupid but they always happen to know where you. So you can't hide from them. Upgrades are expensive. You just have to stay your distance and let them come to you. Reload quickly and save your money to buy better weapons and ammunition and health supplies. Bows and arrows are inefficient. Go for automatics and rocket launchers. At the end of the day, it's all about health and happiness. Stay safe.
@Victor During lockdown only way to advance is if members your own household act key roles, then ask friends/others to video or Skype additional footage, relevant to script. Blocking needs to be spot on but its not rocket science and folks are still watching Charlie Chaplin films made without todays technology. Another thing I did was message folk who live in a huge eccentric house, near to where our one hour exercise is legally allowed and ask for permission to film when we walked by. Its a very common budget strategy, film exterior of pucker building then shoot inside location anywhere. Films have been successfully made without even showing exterior. Eg Paranormal Activity. (Minimum location/actors). Hell Raiser the horror film, also minimum location. We only saw the outside of house a couple of times and I reckon all scenes were not filmed there.
@Victor I'm presuming you have a smartphone, if so you can get the app "Cadrage" or some other director's view finder app such as "Magic Cinema," or "Lens Matcher". This will help make things look more professional or for more edgy scenes you could go for the rough hand held feel, point and shoot phone. If I had a science fiction to film in lockdown, I would break up scenes where collaboration is needed and get remote assistance, where other's film their own scenes, to add later on at edit. Some of the "Dialogue" could be turned into telephone conversations between characters, filmed in their own locations, at edit they could be used as clever "Cross Cuts."

Define "Sane" ?!?!
Writers are now the social distancing heroes. Whereas before we were kind of the shut-in losers ;)

I'm still a shut-in loser.

Still writing the "game bible" for my video game adaptation of my novel and finally gathering the guts to stand up to prodcos who try to BS me.

Writing one screenplay, editing a second. Learning the art of paint pouring, and honing my brush painting skills (Happy little trees make me smile)
