The attached quote may sound patently obvious and redundant, but having been reading and working on people's scripts for some 15 years, I can attest that too many scripts lack a worthwhile, well-defined story.
If you're writing a spec, then you need to bear in mind that the world is not honour-bound to love your story. I know that may sound unfair to many of you, but that's the truth. Consequently, you must ensure you have a story worth telling. Among many other things, this means it has to stand out among the countless other specs clamouring for attention.
So work out why you're telling your tale. Get to grips with its point, its purpose, its raison d'etre. What is its theme, its message? What exists at its core, what is it truly about, why must you tell this story above all others? And are you communicating these elements clearly?
If you haven't yet tried answering these questions, then I would urge you to find time to do so.
And in the meantime if I can be of any support or guidance, by all means get in touch with me, either via Stage32 or my site: www.philmscribe.com
Happy writing!
