A hybrid script - people enter a video game

I’m working on a family adventure script - it’s a hybrid animation with actual people — like a reverse Roger Rabbit - people in a cartoon world. Other than describing the world, is there anything you have to be aware of to write an animation other than writing a good story? Or is it pretty much like writing a normal script?

Karen "Kay" Ross

I feel like the logical first step would be to see if you can track down a copy of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? so you can see what they did. You could also include a blurb in the opening of your script, that may help.

Thanks Kay, I’ll see what I can do.

I think Cool World and definitely Ready Player One are better references. Good Luck!

@Brent Sounds cool having mix and match of real people and cartoon, never seen that before. Story is king with anything but how to tailor it also it depends if its family/children’s or adult content. Pixar for example often have universal family theme or group ensemble adventures with fantasy characters or animals (aswell as people.)

PS This video game idea sounds like it could be backdrop for interesting sub culture, which is something that can go down well with studios. I realise it’s “family” orientated but what I meant in my post above is there’s +13 or absolutely any age which would make a difference in how to fine tune. I tried to post you a link to 140 page PDF writing for animation here but cannot, however Scott Myers @gointothestory has google link on his blogs. I seen him live many times in London and this is after notes Pixar Masterclass, it’s also free.

Thanks Debbie! Really appreciate the info and thoughts. I’m working out the story, especially with the pandemic kids love their live gaming. I haven’t seen ready player one yet, I’ll have to check it out.
