Introduce Yourself : Hi from Pittsburgh, PA by Kendra McLaughlin

Kendra McLaughlin

Hi from Pittsburgh, PA

I want to hear what people are working on right now. What makes your heart leap for joy? What is fueling your passion? What creative projects are you working on that make it fun to get up in the morning?

I am an actress, writer and producer based in Pittsburgh, Pa. I am currently in the process of writing a new play that’s been kicking around inside me for a while now. It’s a mother/daughter play about obligations, family secrets, the power of memory and the freedom that comes when we have the courage to

re-member our true value. The characters have clear voices and even though they are dealing with some heavy issues, it’s pretty damn funny so far!

Let me know what’s happening in your neck of the woods. I would love to say “hi”.

Thanks!

Sounds great! Glad to hear from both of you. I totally get where you are coming from ARAY. Real life is oftentimes inspiration for art. Ed, do you know Teri Skirtich? She did my costume, hair and make-up for a show I did at City Theatre a few years ago. She was lovely. I wondered if you were related. I would love to connect sometime here in Pittsburgh! That would be great!

It sounds like your writing process is similar to mine. In my case, an idea has to percolate for awhile--usually a few months--before I'm ready to start writing. When I start "hearing" dialogue, I know it's time! I tend to write about complicated family dynamics. It can be funny, it can be sad. I like keeping it real with raw emotions. Good luck with your new play!

Hi Kendra- Thanks for the reply. As far as Teri Skirtich- I know there's an Eddie and Johnny Skirtich- could she be related to them. Yes- City Theater is awesome- I do ushering and acting classes at Pittsburgh Public Theater. Stay connected- Ed Skirtich
