Hi Daniel, great move, I think. Did you read any books or online sources about the art of screenwriting? You're already experienced in writing fiction, so obviously you know how to make a story. The next step is how to fit this into the form/template of a scenario.

Welcome, fellow Vancouverite! I agree with Frank (I did the same sort of switch, from prose to scripts) and formatting is key. There's tons of resources online and as far as other aspects go, there's some great webinars here at Stage32.
If you'd like, you can also check out the Writers' Room here for even more content - lots of webinars that break down specific parts of films, genres, etc. and the community's pretty great. Having a regular writing group is essential to keeping the engine going, for sure. I just talked with a friend here in LA who just went from writer's assistant to staff writer, and she's still attending her weekly group and signing up for classes. The process doesn't change, you just get better/faster at the work. I also highly recommend the Writer's Room, but I'm biased ;-)
