Hey everyone! I’m a novelist and screenwriter currently based in Marin County, just north of San Francisco, but I’m originally from Duluth, Minnesota. Oddly, I saw a photo of Marin County at age nine in one of my geeky “Star Wars” model books (it was a photo of Skywalker Ranch), and I thought, “Gosh, what a beautiful place!” Somehow I’m now lucky enough to call the place home. That said, I’m currently looking for a means to transition to LA at least part time so I can be near my old Chapman University film school friends and other creatives types (I don’t get much of that energy up here in the Bay Area, as it’s mostly all tech). In terms of a life roadmap, I’m aiming to shoot my first short and a follow up feature here in SF within the next two years, and/or sell one of my shows and learn the ropes of show running (which is my ultimate goal).
I’ve been using Stage 32 for about 1.5 years now and have been fortunate enough to gain exposure/circulation for my first four projects via written pitches and making the “Double Recommend” list. The site and all the executives have been so helpful in helping me hone my craft and learn this angle of the business!
If I have a personal “brand,” it’s writing entertaining stories that challenge social constructs and preconceived notions about life, reality, and the universe, whether that means paranormal, satirical, or diversity focused (I’m gay, so diversity/inclusion are very important to me). I wish I could write straight-up comedy, but I’ll leave that to better writers. :-) Besides my film-related work, I’m currently writing the fourth book in my Jonathan Flite series while doing freelance copywriting and video production for startups. The goal, though, is to write/direct/show run full time.
I’d love to hear from anyone and everyone, particularly people near San Francisco or LA. Please reach out if you need help on your project or if you’d simply like to make a new connection.
Hope you all have a great week!

Phenomenal IY post, Matthew. Gotta congratulate you on those Double Recommends. Not easy to come by at all, especially when your work is being reviewed by industry execs with mega high standards. Keep charging, my friend.
