I’m currently writing my 4th feature. My very first one, which I was asked to write, made it as far as getting a producer and a lead actor very interested. Scandal (I wasn’t a part of) shelved the project indefinitely but the whole process was like a vampires bite and now I’m hooked! I started off just reading articles and writing shorts and watching videos, reading books, etc. now, for the first time, I’m writing with professional software (I’ve been told people hate it but I like it so far), really digging into the characters and the story itself and I feel like, even though I’m only 27 pages in, that this is best screenplay work I’ve done. I’m really proud of the direction it’s going and how everything is coming together. I have to say, this one is a true joy to write.

Congrats on #4. Let's hope it continues NOT to feel like work. Selling the work is great - really great - but the highest internal satisfaction (for me) is when I'm so convinced the script is undeniably good that I don't feel any need to seek external validation. Sounds like you may be approaching that aspirational goal.
I have one feature like that. It can, and will, get even better with some additional editing.
Thanks James and David!
Nope, a guy I went to high school with was working as an actor on a show and reached out to me asking if I could write him a short script. I said sure, though I’d never written one before. He showed it to a couple of people who worked on the show and supposedly they loved it and asked if I could turn it into a feature. So I did. Then did the edits as per their suggestions. It got passed around, locations were scouted, an actor down in LA wanted to sign on to it but then something happened and the whole thing dissolved. From there I was hooked and I’ve pretty much put all my literary projects on hold to write screenplays.
Thanks Dan, that’s good advice!
