I'm not sure if this has been shared here yet but it is an interesting read. I think this article sums up what some composers are feeling.

What are your thoughts? I don't think this is anything new per se - music and composers have been shortsighted in various mediums before but I'd thought it would have changed by now. Sadly, it looks as if music scores as well as other categories like stunt work and sound design are getting the short end yet again.
Yeah... it's really very disrespectful, but I'm not sure the awards ceremony is about the creators anymore. I think it's only about getting people to watch since viewership has been in decline for so long. I'm not sure respect and reverence get people to watch.
I agree with you Shanika, nothing new but still really disappointing. Not seeing the nominees in full will put diversity back 20 years. But Kay's right, it's a viewership exercise and the creators/creatives are second string to that.
I am a member of The Society Of Composers and Lyricists (SCL). Every nominee in both Oscar music categories is also a member. Here is what SCL released last Fri:
Statement Regarding the Recent A.M.P.A.S. Decision
The Society of Composers & Lyricists deeply regrets the Motion Picture Academy's decision to exclude score composers and seven other categories of creative artists from the live presentation and acceptance of their honors during the Academy Awards broadcast. This is the first time such diminution has occurred since the Oscars® ceremony had its initial television transmission in 1953.
The SCL certainly understands the Academy's desire to streamline the event, but this is the wrong way to do it. Music's contribution to a film is invaluable and indispensable, as are the other crafts affected by this decision and deserve to be treated accordingly.
We urge the Academy to reconsider this approach, and we stand ready to work with them to find a more balanced solution.
