Movie Surprises

Happy Monday, Community! What's a movie you recently watched that you were surprised to have enjoyed as much as you did?

I, for example, knew that I'd like KING RICHARD? But, was not prepared to enjoy it neeeeeearly as much as I did (it's so lovely).

Sound off!

Travis Mathers

Snow Piercer! I went into that film thinking it would be pretty interesting and was blown away at almost every scene. Had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Marci Urling

I absolutely loved tick, tick... BOOM! I was it good, I didn't want it to end.

MB Stevens

"Don't Look Up," was surprisingly good. I turned it on as background to write and forgot to write.

Lady Macbeth

Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog. I had expectations because I hold Campion in my higher steem since The Piano, eventhough I haven't had the chance to see any of her other movies. When I heard it was released on Netflix, at least in my country, I was a afraid that the cinematography and the experience of time would be somehow threatened in its potential impact. On contrary, the profoundity of the characters, -thus the actors performances-, the constant tension, the many layers, heavy layers, beneath the action plot and of course, the outcome... Puff, it blew my mind

No kidding, agreed on all four of the fronts :)

SUCH good movies, all!

Joanna Karselis

Great choices all! I watched indie sci-fi Little Joe the other week. I was expecting to enjoy it, but its creepiness and visual language has really stayed with me ever since (does being perma-creeped out counts as enjoying?! It was very enjoyable if so!)

Sylvia Kunene

Swan Song. Had expected another big Hollywood name with very little to take away from. The acting was on point, the scripting on point, and the characters were beyond relatable and well-rounded. The topic piece gave me "enter the void" emotions. We paused constantly to discuss as a couple. can't wait to rewatch 5 years from now
