Follow ups? - HELP

Hi creatives! I wanted to hear your thoughts about following up with a producer. How long after sending your script should you follow up? and how do you go about it? Any "sample" message? :P

Kacee Potential

There are no sample messages, you have to find the right words for your project when you follow up usually 3-5 weeks after the initial email, then if no response wait another 3 weeks then if still, no response send another email in 2 wks then no response, let it go and move on.

Rob Jones

I usually wait a month or so.

Doug Nelson

Requested or unrequested. When someone finds my email address (which is a guarded secret) and sends me an unrequested script: I will not open it nor will I respond - ever. It's pointless to follow up. There are always unknown circumstances that pop up but if it's something I ,requested, then I expect it to show up in about 48 hours and I will respond in about 48 hours. If I pass on it, I'll tell you& I'll not open/respond to any additional inquiries from you - period. That may sound harsh, but that's just the way it must be.

Maurice Vaughan

"If you have any additional awards or news, you could also, says "hey, wanted to check in and share 'script title' just won blah blah." I like that, Heather Ostrove.

Craig D Griffiths

I normally set expectations during the last conversation. But if it was left open ended I would wait a month. I would take that opportunity to set expectations.

Hi Mariannjely Marval

I am just following up to the screenplay “blah blah”. I sent it to you early last month. I was wondering if their is anything further you need?

I don’t want to take up to much of your time. When would you like to me touch base again.

Kind regards

Craig D Griffiths

I don't do that...crickets may mean many things but until they're revert with "no" it isn't over...and even then...

Dave Kessler talks on how Johnny Depp company turned down his spec script only to come back again after nine months with "lemme see that again"

Meantime don't let crickets be on your side too...just carry on, another pitch, another, another...

Michael Vashon Harris

Agree with a month. Anytime I'm engaged with industry professionals I feel it's a reasonable amount of time to send a follow up to check in. It's impossible to predict or know their schedules and as much as we hate to think they've forgotten about us it's entirely possible, so a follow up can also act as a friendly reminder. Just ask politely if they have any updates or insights.

Thank you Kacee Potential ! I hope I don't have to follow up with the follow up :P

Mariannjely Marval

Heather Ostrove that's a great advice. Thank you so much!

Doug Nelson straight to the point! :)

Mariannjely, I attempt to always tell it like it is (from my pov) and I go out of my way to never mislead or ever utter an untruth. I've realized that very few can handle the truth.
