Introduce Yourself : Actor and Filmmaker from Texas by David D. Ford

David D. Ford

Actor and Filmmaker from Texas

Hi. Well I am not happy unless I am working on a film whether it's in pre-production, shooting, or post. I love acting and making movies. I've made three feature films on about 15k each which as you know only covered the cost of a DP for a month and food for cast and crew. But they are rated well on Amazon. I made them to show what I could with hopes of getting decent funding for my upcoming slate of films. I have some great projects and I know how to produce a film from screenplay to distribution as I've done it several times now. I would like to make the right connections but haven't met the real deal yet. I am not giving up. My latest film released in last August and it's not perfect but remember, I had to use volunteers and amateurs...but still has a good rating if anyone wants to check it out on Amazon or Tubi. It's called Man vs Bigfoot

Hi David! Congrats on getting your films out there on a microbudget- good reviews on Amazon isn't easy, that's really impressive!

Really hope you can get the right connections to take the next step up. It's very difficult to progress upwards sometimes. I don't know what the scene is like in Texas; are there funding opportunities you can apply for your next films, or sympathetic funding bodies? (here in the UK we have the BFI who have regular opportunities to apply, and national funding competitions- don't know if the AFI would do anything similar?)

Three feature films on about 15k each?! That's IMPRESSIVE, David D. Ford! The poster for "Man vs. Bigfoot" looks great. I'll check out the movie on Tubi.

David D. Ford

Thank you Maurice. They aren't perfect or exactly the way I envisioned but sometimes what we have to work with and what we want are two different things.

You're welcome, David D. Ford. You're right ("...sometimes what we have to work with and what we want are two different things"). I checked out the trailer. It looks GREAT for a movie made with about $15K. I added "Man vs. Bigfoot" to my Tubi watch list.

Hey David! That's seriously impressive. Did you know Stage 32 offers pitch sessions with executives in the business. There have been many successes from these sessions. Maybe you'll find a home for one of your upcoming projects. Jason Piette at Disrupting Influence has a session coming up that I would check out. https://www.stage32.com/scriptservices/pitch-sessions

Let me know how it goes!

Sandra Ray

Nice work! I have no doubts that your future projects will continue to elevate and bring you closer to your goals.

GiGi Raines

HI David, that's incredible! These sound like incredible projects! Really impressive that they are made for 15k. One of our execs here is in acquisitions at Tubi, it may be a good idea to meet with her about your projects just to build your connections and stay on the radar with Tubi. Also, I recently spoke with Tyler Winther who is specifically interested in helping writers/producers with VFX on indie projects. He also may an excellent person to connect with for Man Vs. Bigfoot. I have both of the links below! Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out anytime! Cheers, GiGi
