Introduce Yourself : Intro weekend by Travis Seppala

Intro weekend

A bunch of you know me already, but here we go:

I'm a produced screenwriter with 1 project on Tubi (CAPTIVE) and another coming next month to Shudder (ELEVATOR GAME). Both have been reported on in Deadline, Fangoria, JoBlo, Bloody Disgusting, and a variety of other movie news and horror news sites.

I've also published a book of screenwriting tips ("365: A Year of Screenwriting Tips"), placed in over 50 contests, been hired to write films and TV, and I'm repped by Sovereign Talent Group.

I write a lot of horror, thriller, and sci-f material. Sometimes dramas. Never comedy beyond the occasional moments of levity in a dark script to give the characters and audience a false sense that everything's fine.

I very much want to get in my first TV writer's room. I'd also love to get to write for comic books.

To date - between features, shorts, and TV scripts... both spec and paid assignments - I've written nearly 140 scripts. Not to mention all the outlines, pitches, bibles, etc.

Christopher Mosley

Dark scripts; I love it Travis Seppala! Just completed first issue of an indie comic, hoping to get more involved in that industry. Congrats on all your success!

Maurice Vaughan

Almost 140 scripts!? Whoa! That's IMPRESSIVE, Travis Seppala! I plan to check out CAPTIVE this week.

Sille Larsen

wow, 140 scripts!!! and I think it's hard to even get one done sometimes, major respect, and what a journey you have had so far!

Travis Seppala

Christopher Mosley How'd you get the comic set up? Did you make it yourself (hire an artist, self-pblish, etc) or did you get brought on someone else's project?

Travis Seppala

Maurice Vaughan Thanks! Hope you enjoy it.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Travis Seppala. Looking forward to seeing ELEVATOR GAME too. The trailer looks great!

Travis Seppala

Thesy Surface See, writing is IT for me. I've been a producer (hate it!) and I'm an award-winning director of shorts and music videos but I'm not a fan of that either because I feel like such a dick telling other people how I want them to do their job to get the vision in my head on screen. But writing... I'm totally fine playing God on the page! ;) The downside, of course, is getting rewritten so heavily the final films don't resemble what I initially invisioned... which kinda makes me want to try directing and producing again to get what I want on film!

Travis Seppala

Sille Larsen Thanks! Yeah. I've been at this since... 2001? So 22 years of writing just constantly! lol

Travis Seppala

Maurice Vaughan Sadly both movies are getting... not great reviews. lol

ELEVATOR GAME got very very rewritten by the director and her husband (her husband gets "additional writing by" credit) to the point that I can count the things that remained from my script on one hand.

Debbie Elicksen

Travis Seppala I probably need to get a copy of your book. :)

Maurice Vaughan

Ah, man, Travis Seppala. That's the reality for screenwriters sometimes. At least you got the sales and credits.

Travis Seppala

Debbie Elicksen well, then what are you waiting for? Get on Amazon and order it! :P

John W. Beach

Awesome Travis Seppala! Congrats on all your successes! Keep writing!

Maurice Vaughan

I watched "Elevator Game" tonight, Travis Seppala. I saw your name in the opening credits! I liked the movie. Scary stuff! The opening was nerve racking. Haha

Travis Seppala

Maurice Vaughan The opening scene is one of the few things in this movie that were still my writing. lol There were some pretty heavy rewrites throughout.

Maurice Vaughan

Cool, Travis Seppala. Glad your opening scene stayed. I'm gonna try and check out "Captive" soon.

Dr. Muzaffar Shah-khan

Nicolas Simonin

Congrats on creating indie horror. Each movie made is such an accomplishment!

Travis Seppala

Nicolas Simonin For sure! AND thanks to the 2 sales so far (for CAPTIVE and ELEVATOR GAME) I'm now totally debt free! So that's always a plus.

Travis Seppala

Maurice Vaughan Enjoy CAPTIVE. That one is significantly closer to my original script with just a few differences (mainly the ages of the characters -- they were meant to be teens, but producers felt casting would be easier if they were adults).
