I'm currently writing a script for a sitcom for the first time and I'm having trouble understanding when to underline a scene. Can someone let me know, please?
Go find sitcom scripts from the past 5 years or so, and read them to understand their structure, and read them to see the mechanics of how they are typed on the page.
I write lots of sitcoms and never underline. That's usually saved for production drafts in my experience. In the writing stage, before you pass off to the production team, just go without underlining. No one's looking for scenes to be underlined or not

Why/who said you have to underline?

Sitcoms nowadays tend to follow a more traditional formatting, like features (with act breaks). I usually point writers to Tina Fey's pilot of 30 Rock as a good structure sample: https://tvwriting.co.uk/tv_scripts/Collections/Comedy/30_Rock/30_Rock_1x...

don’t quote me on this, but I think a multi camera is underlined and a single camera is not.

Rick Wheeler said on Stage 32, "Multi camera is underlined and a single camera is not."
