SCREENWRITERS: What is the education you really want to learn

I am going to try a little experiment here in a few of the lounges.

SCREENWRITERS: What would YOU program if you booked Stage 32 education? Enough likes for a suggestion and I will look into it for future programming!

Maurice Vaughan

Characters arcs, Tom Lapke. I've gotten a lot better at writing character arcs over the years, but I'm always looking to get better at writing them.

Dan MaxXx

Maybe a webinar where we track an original screenplay to development to production to post-production to finished movie. Personally, Im curious of reading the original first draft specs that got ppl interested from start.

For example, I cant find the original Good Will Hunting screenplay, supposedly there was a CIA subplot.

Hi @Tom, I did a fantastic year long mentorship programme on Stage 32 a few years ago with Producer Kip Konwiser. If there was another mentorship programme with Kip, or someone equally as awesome, I would definitely do it!

Alicia Vaughan

What a great idea Dan!

Robin Gregory

Hey Tom Lapke , I so appreciate the invitation. S32 offers so many great programs, I'm at a loss to make a suggestion. But, I agree with Dan MaxXx , it would be fun to track the trajectory of a script. I'd even like to see the one-pager or pitch deck if they exist. Thank you!

Amanda Toney

I'll see if I can get Chris Moore, the producer of Good Will Hunting to teach that. He's one of our educators...There might be NDAs attached to that script, though. Stay tuned!

Tom Lapke

Thanks Amanda Toney . I thnk this would be an incredible opportunity for members.

Thank you to everyone who chimed in. I posted similar posts in the acting and filmmaking lounge, but you guys really came through! Very interesting to read.

You're welcome, Tom Lapke.

Great question, thanks for asking. I would say as an outsider and newbie, there is so much information available here that it's challenging to start. I am unsure what it is called in the movie industry, but normally there is an orientation/ onboarding process for new hires. Basically, providing a blue print and / or advise for navigating the business, general questions answered, etc. I am apprehensive regarding which classes and professionals I should invest my limited resources in. I dont know if I will receive likes, just wanted to express this thought. Again, thank you for this question.

Hi Tom Lapke the comments above from JoAnn RossT and Robin Gregory make for an interesting thought if you combine them. What isn't needed, necessarily, is tons of new programming. But what could be really useful is an interactive guide that helps you get the most from the great material already here. A step-by-step onboarding program that asks a series of questions. Depending on what you answer, it steers you toward particular material and helps you build a personalised curriculum.. (AI powered, of course!) Without that, S32 can be bewildering. You can try the wrong thing, get frustrated, feel like it's all a trick to get money out of you, etc. The revenue opportunities are much greater in helping people to assemble a curriculum for themselves than in them bumbling their way around the site and randomly pitching or taking webinars.

John Carter Good point. I agree. A Newbie Guidebook or something. I am still discovering new things on Stage 32!
