Hello, I'm Ebai-Eyong Akanga, a 17 year old screenwriter from Cameroon.
I joined the Stage 32 community last year, while I completed my first novel. I was riding on a cloud then. I thought I would complete the novel and easily find a producer who would adapt it to a movie in a no time, then I'll become a star. Little did I know how complex the industry was.
Thanks to Stage 32, I was able to understand how things work in the industry. Stage 32 has taught me patience. When I see some 30 or 40 year old guys on the platform talk about how they have finally sold their scripts after years of rejection, I understand that the future is bright ahead and patience is the key. It's really never too late.
I have still not sold a script to date, but I don't feel under pressure anymore. I'll just take my time to refine my craft, without ruling out the possibility of rejection. One thing I've learned is that rejection is a forum for self improvement. Rejection shouldn't make you feel down, it should drive you to do even better.
I'm about to complete a script. I'll be patient with the process, and no high hopes are there yet. I'm open to potential rejection but one thing is sure, I shall always bounce back stronger.
Thanks Stage 32 for this lesson, I feel less pressure when writing scripts and less pressure enables me to be inspired the more.
So my advice to everyone reading this is; "TAKE YOUR TIME AND TRUST THE PROCESS".
